Researchers at the University of Minnesota in Twin Cities have used advanced 3D printing technology to create a flexible OLED display, according to media reports.
Flexible OLED displays are known to be an integral part of products such as smartphones, media player and mainstream televisions, because it often needs to be produced in large, expensive and in very clean facilities, resulting in high costs. The successful application of 3D printing in flexible OLED displays is expected to greatly reduce the cost of OLED displays. Researchers custom-built a hard-core 3D printer and tried two different printing modes. After trial and error, they were able to print an edge 1.5 inches long, an OLED display with 64 × 64 pixels, and each pixel works. In addition, the researchers performed 2,000 bending tests on the OLED display, and it still worked, meaning it could be used in flexible OLED displays in wearable devices.
When it comes to 3D printing, its development can not do without the help of many technologies, including the linear motor technology, which has high speed, high accuracy and other characteristics, a driver integrated into a 3D printing device as a related component.
